In the film version of Arthur C. Clarke's 2010, the characters Curnow and Floyd (played by John Lithgow and Roy Scheider) have a conversation about baseball stadiums and the relative merits of their hotdogs, eventually deciding that you can't grow good hotdogs indoors.
Not SF, but of interest are Karen Joy Fowler's The Sweetheart Season, Henry Holt, 1996 and Ivan Felt & Harris Conklin's Believeniks! 2005: The Year We Wrote A Book About the Mets, Doubleday, 2006 (pseudonymously written by Jonathan Lethem and Christopher Sorrantino).
