In 2003, I edited a series of three anthologies with Martin H. Greenberg (with a big assist from John Helfers) which reprinted the first published stories by science fiction, fantasy, and horror authors. Ranging from Murray Leinster's 1919 science fiction story "The Runaway Skyscraper" to Fiona Patton's 1998 fantasy story "The Raven's Quest," the three volumes reprinted fifty authors, including Ursula K. Le Guin, George R. R. Martin, Neil Gaiman, Gene Wolfe, Mercedes Lackey, and Tanith Lee. Each author was also invited to include an introduction to their stories, talking about the inspiration, the memories of their first sale, or other pertinent thoughts about their stories. From 2004 through 2012, I was the editor and publisher of ISFiC Press and had the privilege of editing a books by a dozen authors, including three novels, one anthology, seven collections, and a non-fiction anthology.
I've also edited a two collections of stories by Lester del Rey, which comprise about two-thirds of the short fiction del Rey published. Both books are available via NESFA Press.
More recently, I worked with Joshua Palmatier to publish the original anthology Alternate Peace, which included fifteen alternate history stories in which the branch points were not caused by war or violence.
